This is an extremely attractive sword because of the mounts and of the exceptional blade.  To start with the blade has no flaws and is well balanced.  The hada/steel is forged very tightly and has a milky look to it.  The hamon/temper is very active and is loaded with nie and nio mixed.  Making this style of hamon is very difficult, but the Owari smiths were known for this type of unique workmanship.  The point is full tempered.  Please look at the blade picture blown up to see how incredibly interesting this workmanship is.  The mounts on this fine sword are also very interesting.  The saya was slightly restored and is very unique.  The fittings are of good quality and the handle has a string wrap in gold setting off the overall beauty of these mounts.  It would be a good idea to make a shirasaya for this sword some day.  This sword comes with papers and original mounts.

Please note that this smith also signed “DÔTANUKI MUNEHIRO” with many different variations.  This work is extremely beautiful and flamboyant with an incredible amount of activity.  The hamon looks like its alive with flames flickering along the cutting edge.  The hataraki/activaty includes yo, ashi, kinsuji and a mixture of nie and nioi.  Even in the kissaki/point you can find an attractive and active hamon with a healthy turn back.  This fine blade has grooves/bo-hi carved into it and very well done.  The hada is thghtly forged and looks milky.  Some utsuri is visible.  The overall balance and feel of this sword is of a real high quality samurai sword that the maker signed and dated.  It has never been cut down or altered in anyway and is ubu/original in shape and size.  The mounts are also original to the sword and comes with its saya that has been restored.  This sword comes polished in shirasaya and the mounts have a tsunagi.  It has papers authenticating the signature and quality and is in a very beautiful sashikomi polish that highlights the refined work in the hamon.
